Weckruf durch den Portier um 4.45 Uhr Turkuzeit. Aurelia führt ein angeregtes Gespräch auf finnisch mit dem Taxichauffeur. Wir warten im Flughafen. Dabei erzählt Aurelia den letzten Teil ihres gelesenen finnischen Kriminalromanes von Arto Paasilinna. Es wird schon sehr früh hell. Wir nehmen den Frühflug nach Kopenhagen. [Read more →]

Our last day in Turku was dedicated to a trip to the island Ruissalo. Peter took us to the archipelago near the city in Hannah’s Volvo. On the way we stopped at a wooden tower to enjoy the view and get an overview of the area. We saw the nearby city, industry, sports halls and the shipyard where the biggest ships in the world are built. Aurelia let her silk pieces be carried off the high tower by the wind. Afterwards she picked them all up again under the close scrutiny of Peter, who is a conservationist. [Read more →]

Unser letzter Tag in Turku war einem Ausflug auf die Insel Ruissalo gewidmet. Peter fuhr uns mit dem alten Volvo von Hannah auf den Archipelago in der Nähe der Stadt. Zuerst hielten wir bei einem hölzernen Aussichtsturm von dem wir uns einen Überblick verschafften. Wir sahen die nahe gelegene Stadt, Industrie-, Sport- und Werftanalgen, in denen die größten Schiffe der Welt gebaut werden.
Aurelia ließ ihre Tücher im Wind vom hohen Turm wehen. Sie sammelte diese unter den strengen Blicken von Peter, der ein Naturschützer ist, ein und riskierte Kopf und Kragen, um ein Tuch von einem hohen Baum zu holen. [Read more →]

Early this beautiful sunny morning we take the bus 53 with Reino to go to Jan Erik’s Leaf House. With this house the artist fulfilled a lifelong dream of his. He’s been working on the project “Leaf House”, a house build with a ground plan in the shape of a leave, for 10 years now. The city of Turku gave him a plot of land in a corner of a park. They didn’t want to have such a strange building within their city limits. The building is almost completed now. [Read more →]

Früh am Morgen gehen wir bei strahlender Sonne mit Reino zum Bus 53, um zum Leaf House von Jan Erik Andersson zu fahren. Der Künstler ist dabei, sich einen Lebenstraum zu erfüllen. Seit 10 Jahren arbeitet er an seinem Projekt „Leaf House“, das den Grundriss eines Blattes hat. Das Grundstück wurde ihm von der Stadt Turku am Rande eines Parks zugewiesen. Zu ungewöhnlich ist die äußere Form. Man wollte dieses Bauvorhaben nicht im städtischen Gebiet haben. [Read more →]

Turku is a city of around 160.000 and is situated on the west coast of southern Finland. Just off the coast is the second biggest archipelago in the world. The city is built on the banks of the river Aura, which used to be its main channel of access. Today there are numerous bridges across the river. Both sides of the canal are lined with the most important buildings of the city: theatre, university, churches, art academy, museums, shipyards, restaurants, cafes and the new library. Turku ist eine Stadt von ca. 160.000 Einwohnern, liegt in Südfinnland an der Westküste. Der zweitgrößte Archipelago der Welt ist der Küste vorgelagert.
Die Stadt selbst liegt am Fluss Aura, der als ehemaliger zentraler Verkehrsweg vom Meer aus die Stadt erschloss. Heute überspannen zahlreiche Brücken diesen Wasserweg. Links und rechts des Kanals sind alle wichtigen Gebäude der Stadt: Theater, Universität, Kirchen, Akademie der bildenden Künste, Museen, Werften, Restaurants, Cafes und auch die neue Bibliothek. 600 Jahre lang, unter schwedischer Herrschaft, war Turku / Abo die größte und wichtigste Stadt Finnlands. Today the weather is gray and cold. It rained a little earlier on. In Austria we don’t even appreciate how nice the weather is, how beautiful the seasons are. Here people are still quite shaken by the long dark winter.

We have a long talk about our future cooperation with the Gallery Titanik and our plans in connection with cultural capital Turku 2011.
As in most places, artist in Turku have to struggle to finance their art and their international contacts. [Read more →]

Heute ist es grau und kalt, es hat ein wenig geregnet. Wir in Österreich wissen gar nicht, wie schön wir es mit dem Wetter und den Jahreszeiten haben. Hier sind die Leute noch ziemlich gebeutelt vom langen dunklen Winter.
